Music Video for the Week

Recently I had posted a blog about Michael Jackson's Thriller, directed by the great John Landis, this week I bring you another very famous music video for the timeless 1995 hit Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio. This video was directed by Antoine Fuqua, who has directed such as films as Training Day, Tears of the Sun and is curently working on a project about Pablo Escobar. The video itself features footage from Dangerous Minds with Michelle Pfeiffer. The song itself still remains popular today and the video is another perfect example of a well known music video director going Hollywood Mainstream!

Music Video for the Week

It's been a bit since my last post, but with all the news of the late King of Pop I decided to post his most famous video Thriller. The video itself was funded out of Michael Jackson's pocket and directed by the great John Landis (Animal House, American Werewolf in London). This title song off of the ultra popular record that has sold over 50 million copies worldwide (Best selling record of All Time) and has been named the most successful music video of all time. At the time of its release in 1983 it was the most expensive music video ever made at a $500,000 budget. The great makeup effects were done by the legendary Rick Baker (American Werewolf in London, Planet of the Apes, Nutty Professor) and the video also features a voice over by horror great Vincent Price. Here is the video for all to enjoy...

King of Pop Gone!

Michael Jackson dying is the world's biggest music news since Elvis passing away. Everyone who enjoyed music has heard of Michael Jackson which is why him passing away is a world wide event and tragedy. Not only was he loved in the United States, but all over the world. In fact, I would say it is a bigger tragedy in foreign countries then the U.S. Michael Jackson may have had a different lifestyle then other people, but no one can take away the fact that he was the best performer and musician. When he performed on stage, no one cared about his personal life, they just say how passionate he was about his music and that is why he is going to be truly missed. Thriller will never be touched as far as best video and song. He is a legend simply based on that song and video alone. I don't think I will see another performer and musician like him in my lifetime. All I can say is everyone will truly miss him and his music.

Eminem gets teabagged at MTV Movie Awards

Everyone was talking about this for the past week and well I wasn't sure where it would fit in but, Eminem met another King of Controversy at the 2009 MTV movie awards! Sacha Baron Cohen is starting his marketing campaign for his new film Bruno in a very crazy way! The big question was the famous rapper in on it? Yes he of course knew this was going to happen (in later interviews), but at the time the video was taken, it really made me wonder. Either way it was one hell of a stunt, check out the video here!

Relapse: Eminem is Back

Eminem has been out of the spotlight for the past few years leaving room for new rappers to emerge but all I can say is that he has completely returned to form with Relapse. As one of the most talented lyricists ever, this album does not let down at all with great rhymes and flows by Eminem. As with any Eminem album, it is full of disses, violence and controversy, but that is what he is know for and he has come back with full force in this album. I find it to be a very personal album as Eminem digs into deeper issues such as his own drug addiction and all the problems in his life. I would recommend any fan of Eminem to purchase this album. The few singles released are not even the best songs on the album! I think it's safe to say that this is his most creative album since the Marshall Mathers LP and every song is the album is catchy and creative.

Here are few songs that haven't hit the radio yet, but are definitely raw!

SNL Music

Everyone knows what SNL means. Since the 1970s Saturday Night Live has been delivering a dose of humor to late night television. Over the last three decades the cast has changed numerous times and older members have gone on to do other things. In this new age of technology where a five year old is sending out three hundred texts a day, the current SNL crew had to come up with a way to keep audiences engaged. So they have posted on the internet a number of short skits that are entirely song based. Two of the more popular ones, at least for two contributors to this site, are the Natalie Portman rap and Jizz in My Pants. You may be skeptical about Natalie Portman rapping but I assure you it is real as one of the following videos will prove.

The first video is the break out song Jizz in My Pants. While I am not a big fan of it, I find it annoying, my friends absolutely love it. But I will leave it up to you to decide whether you like it or not. Enjoy.

Next up we have the Natalie Portman rap. I was skeptical about this at first as I had only heard the audio. But after seeing the video, my skepticism disappeared. Granted there are still a number of ways to fake her rapping, it is hard not to believe your eyes. So for all you doubters out there, here is proof that Natalie Portman can rap.

Dark Side of Oz

Dark Side of the Moon is one of the best albums ever made and it just so happens that it is an alternate soundtrack for The Wizard of Oz. There are many crazy elements of synchronicity between the album and the film. Pink Floyd denied the relationship between the film and album saying it was merely coincidental. There are definitely some crazy moments in this video and its perfectly synced. For more information on this crazy phenomenon, click here.

Marilyn Manson New album: The High End of Low

Just checking through some music release dates and caught the glimpse of Marilyn Manson's new Album: The High End of Low. I haven't had a chance to listen to any of the new tracks off the album but I guess that a single has already been released. The album doesn't hit shelves until May 26. I thought that Eat Me Drink Me was a pretty good record. It had a lot of good tracks on it like: Heart Shaped Glasses, Just a Car Crash Away and more. I hope that this next album will be as good as the last. Eat Me Drink Me was a good return and Manson described it as a love record. This album seems to have a different track listing than the prior. This will be his 7th studio album and first time since 2000's Holy Wood that guitarist Twiggy will be performing. Here is the track list for the upcoming album, sounds like there will be controversy!
  1. Devour
  2. Pretty as a Swastika
  3. Leave a Scar
  4. Four Rusted Horses
  5. Arma-goddamn-motherfuckin-geddon
  6. Blank and White
  7. Running to the Edge of the World
  8. I Want to Kill you like they do in the movies
  9. WOW
  10. Wight Spider
  11. Unkillable Monster
  12. We're from America
  13. I have to look up just to see hell
  14. Into the Fire
  15. 15
Here are some of the new tracks off the album...

Eminem's New Album

I think Eminem is one of the best rappers ever to be in the game and to hear he is coming out with a new album gets me very excited. His new album called Relapse will come out on May 19. I am very excited about this album because his two first singles are very popular and well liked. Crack a Bottle which features 50 Cent and Dr. Dre came out awhile ago and is a huge hit with everyone. 5o Cent and Dr. Dre are also featured on more tracks. Eminem has been out of the game for awhile, but I feel he has not lost a step lyrically at all. He always finds a way to come out with songs that everyone enjoys even if you don't want to.
